Where to start?

Which Social Media site do you enjoy the most?

Which one do you spend the most time on?

Which is best for your business, brand or personal reputation?

Is the answer the same for each question? If it’s not, why not?

There is no right or wrong answer to the last question, just trying to get you to think about it.

Using myself as an example, I find twitter the most fun and it also gets me clicks on links in tweets which is good for my business.

Why do I find twitter the most fun?

I can exchange short tweets with a lot of people in little time.

It is easy to find interesting people to follow.

Tweets get re-tweeted and spread wider and quicker than other platforms.

Disadvantage of twitter, its immediate, although that is an advantage in many ways, it means that if your tweet is not noticed in a few minutes, it will disappear off the radar of all your followers except those who are following very few people.

I do not enjoy Facebook, my enjoyment level seems to decline with each new change that is introduced. Facebook pages are good for business so I force myself to spend time there. I do find it useful on a purely personal level to keep in contact with friends and family spread around the world.

Linked In is good both for making business contacts and to enhance my personal image.

Google Plus now gets a bigger share of my time than Facebook, I enjoy it more and find it better for engaging with business contacts (compared to purely social) and to keep informed of business, marketing and social media developments.

Although I have accounts for You tube, Pinterest and tumblr, I do not spend much time on any of them. They are all good but terrible time sinks (like Facebook). Unless I am very disciplined, an intended 5 minutes to watch a specific video, check a Pinterest board or a tumblr page turns into an entertaining, but essentially wasted, hour.

I have accounts with a huge range of other social media and membership platforms, most of them I spend very little time on.

Three that I am finding useful are:

IBO Toolbox   A business networking site.

Kooiii    A business oriented social media site.

XeeMe  A great site for letting your contacts access your entire social media presence from one url.

That is how it works for me, but different solutions are needed for different businesses.
